On 26 May 2014 the Vietnam Writers’ Association opened a centre for literary translators in Hanoi.

Speaking at the opening,  the poet Huu Thinh, chairman of the Association of Vietnamese Authors, said a major goal of the new centre is to professionalize the translation of Vietnamese literature. To that end the centre will look out for talented literary translators and provide training to them. Furthermore, the centre hopes to cooperate with other authors’ associations and publishing houses abroad in order to help the dissemination of Vietnamese literature.

Nguyen Quang Thieu, poet and vice president of the Vietnam Writers’ Association, will be the director of the translators’ centre.
