In the face of AI, what models of action for the book sector in Europe?
28 May, 2025

Halfway through 2025, a particularly busy year for European cultural policies, the book sector is stepping up its mobilisation in the face of the profound challenges posed by generative artificial intelligence. As the European Union works on a Code of Practices, authors, publishers, translators and booksellers are warning of the threats posed by AI to copyright, the book chain and cultural diversity.

On July 2, 2025, Bela (https://bela NULL.be/) and Scam (https://www NULL.scam NULL.be/fr/), in partnership with PILEn (https://pilen NULL.be/), are organising a European meeting at MEDAA (https://medaa NULL.be/), bringing together professionals and their federations, public officials and European representatives, with a dual objective: to present, compare and promote the different models of action already underway in Europe – sectoral ethics charters, political action, strategic litigation, concrete tools –, and to imagine together the alliances and strategies needed to stand up collectively, at this pivotal moment for the European digital agenda.

The meeting will be held in French – find all details here.
