From 20 to 22 June 2016, the Basque translators’ association EIZIE (http://www NULL.eizie NULL.eus/) organised the ‘Translating Exile’ workshop in Donostia/San Sebastian. Six translators participated in the workshop, which was part of the New Translators’ (http://www NULL.eizie NULL.eus/en/Jarduerak/itzultzaile_berriak) programme (for a European audience). Their work has led to two digital publications, produced by EIZIE.
The novel Koaderno gorria by Arantxa Urretabizkaia, earlier translated into English, Spanish, German, Italian and Russian, is now also available in Polish, Bulgarian, Estonian and Lithuanian. A selection of poetry by Joseba Sarrionandia has been translated into Slovenian, Russian and Lithuanian.
The translators are Barbara Pregelj from Slovenia, Karina Mishchenkova from Russia, Katarzyna Sosnowska from Poland, Laura Liubinavičiūte from Lithuania, Maria Pachkova from Bulgaria, and Merilin Kotta from Estonia. The workshop was led by Itziar Otegi.
Together with these digital publications, a video of the discussion and reading during the public presentation on the last day of the workshop has been made available, as have two other works: a video of translator Aiora Jaka presenting her reflections on Joseba Sarrionandia’s translation practice, and Iñaki Iñurrieta’s article from the journal Senez, on his participation in the workshop.
