Dall’italiano al mondo. The first international conference of translators of Italian literature

Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino (https://www NULL.salonelibro NULL.it/),  online edition, 24th September 2021, 16:00 p.m. – 20:00 p.m. (Central European Summer Time)

“Dall’italiano al mondo” intends to become the annual meeting of all translators of Italian literature and aims at creating a network to support the spread of Italian books abroad.

The conference will offer translators the chance to attend free specialised seminars and to get in touch with Italian publishers, agents and writers.

“Dall’italiano al mondo” is an event part of the AutoreInvisibile, the program of professional meetings on literary translation held at the Salone Internazionale del Libro and curated by Ilide Carmignani.

Among the speakers: Duncan Large (PETRA E-network (https://petra-education NULL.eu/) and British Centre for Literary Translation – University of East Anglia, Norwich; Kevin Quirk (FIT – Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs (https://www NULL.fit-ift NULL.org/)), Shaun Whiteside (CEATL – Conseil Européen des Associations de Traducteurs Littéraires); Nicola Lagioia, editorial director of Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino; Rebecca Servadio  London Literary Scouting and consultant for Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino; Mattia Carratello, americanist, editor for italian publishing house Sellerio and consultant for Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino; Katherine Gregor, English translator of Luigi Pirandello and Marco Malvaldi; Carlos Gumpert, Spanish translator of Antonio Tabucchi and Antonio Scurati and Verena von Koskull, Deutsche-Italienischer Preis 2020 for her translation of La scuola cattolica by Eduardo Albinati.


16:00 p.m. Opening of the conference, Nicola Lagioia (Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino), Duncan Large (PETRA E-network), Kevin Quirk (FIT), Shaun Whiteside (CEATL)

16.30 p.m. Overview of the latest trends in Italian literature and presentation of a selection of untranslated titles, Edoardo Rialti and Vanni Santoni (L’Indiscreto magazine)

17:45 p.m. The literary translator scouting within the publishing supply chain: writers, agents, scouting agencies, publishers. Translation funding, Rebecca Servadio

18:45 p.m. The proposal of the literary translator, Katherine Gregor, Carlos Gumpert, Verena von Koskull. Moderates Mattia Caratello.

19:45 p.m. Closing of the conference, Ilide Carmignani (l’AutoreInvisibile – Salone Internazionale del libro di Torino)

After the panel, participants will be provided with illustrative material and contacts.

The conference is open to all translators of Italian literature.
