Another busy #BCBF came to an end last week. Here are some observations from four intensive days of Bookfair meetings, workshops and events where CEATL had quite a few things to do!
Our active collaboration with Bologna Children’s Bookfair (BCBF) continues with CEATL’s participation in the Translators’ Café program at BCBF 2024 (8-11 April). We were proud to announce the European Conference on Literary Translation with BCBF Director Elena Pasoli and Simona Mambrini (coordinator of the Translators’ Café), BCBF being part of the Strasbourg Steering Committee and among the speakers of the Conference.
As part of the events celebrating Slovenia as guest of honour, we held a panel called “No Language Left Behind, No Book Left Behind: for a biodiversity in children’s literature”, in which we discussed the vital role of translators as cultural ambassadors and promoters of biodiversity in kid lit. The panel was moderated by Francesca Novajra (CEATL President, AITI), and the speakers were Julija Potrč Šavli (DSKP, IBBY Slovenia), Eva Valvo (STRADE, CEATL), Ruth Ahmedzai Kemp (translator, literary agent and project manager at World Kid Lit), Karolina Jaszecka (child lit agent, scout and translator) and Elisabetta Lippolis, vice-president IBBY Italy.
Francesca Novajra presented our statement “No One Left Behind. No Language Left Behind. No Book Left Behind” at the panel on New Technologies, Creativity and Ethical Issues: Copyright Challenges in the Age of AI organized by BCBF and moderated by Simona Mambrini, with Giorgio Franceschelli, Francesca Lagioia, Federico Garcea, Claudia Lecci and Silvia Bernardini (University of Bologna).
