The 20th Festivaletteratura, Italy’s most important literary festival, will be held from 7 to 11 September in Mantua.
This year’s translation slam (10 September at 3 pm) features the Spanish-Mexican writer Paco Ignacio Taibo II and two of his many Italian translators, Gina Maneri and Silvia Sichel, who will joust over an unpublished piece of journalism by the author.
The slam, however, will not be the only event dedicated to translation: on 8 September at 5.30 pm, five translators will discuss their translations of The Wandering Wingless by the Pulitzer-winning writer Philip Schultz; and on the very first day of the festival (7 September at 9 pm), the Italian poet Patrizia Cavalli will give a talk on ‘Translating (and reading) Shakespeare’.
The festival programme (Italian version only) can be downloaded here (http://www NULL.festivaletteratura NULL.it/2016/download).
