The Translators’ House – Casa delle Traduzioni – in Rome is a specialized research centre and library dedicated to translation. It offers non-profit accommodation to selected translators. Starting from March 2014 residencies in Casa delle Traduzioni will no longer be restricted to translators who translate from Italian into another language. Translators who translate into Italian, and translators working with other language pairs are also welcome to apply.

Guests will have the opportunity of working in a comfortable and quiet location in a very central area close to piazza Barberini, and of experiencing a full immersion in Italian culture.

Residency is open to translators from all over the world who comply with the following requirements:

  • at least two translation works already published
  • an ongoing translation contract

Casa delle Traduzioni offers its residents a bedroom with private bathroom, a shared kitchen for self-catering, wifi and unlimited access to the library. Minimum stay is 15 and maximum stay is 45 days. All stays are dependent on availability, on the quality of the translation project and on the time period specified in the application. Literary translators and translators from Italian will be given priority.

To qualify for a residency applicants are asked to fill in the application form and submit it together with

  • a short biography and curriculum vitae
  • a copy of the translation contract

Librarians and translation professionals in committee will undertake the evaluation of applications.

The Translators’ House and library are closed from 1 August to 15 September and during Christmas and Easter holidays.
