This year’s Bologna Children’s Book Fair played host to the closing ceremony of the first Italian translation seminar series focused on Swedish and Finland Swedish children’s and young adult literature.

The series, initiated by the Swedish Arts Council and FILI (the Finnish Literature Exchange), serves an important purpose as there has long been a shortage of Swedish-Italian translators specialising in children’s and young adult literature.

Publisher Iperborea helped arrange the seminar series which was moderated by translator Laura Cangemi. The workshop ran from May 2013 to April 2014. A total of 27 aspiring translators participated in two groups, one in Milan and one in Rome.

All participants and teachers were invited by the Swedish Arts Council to a closing ceremony where the translators presented their work. This final ceremony was also attended by author Ulf Stark, whose works were the focus of the seminars.

The seminar series will start again in September 2014 but will broaden its scope to include literature for adults.
