In collaboration with the Basque Institute Etxepare, the Association of Translators, Correctors and Interpreters of the Basque Language (EIZI) has organized a new edition of the translation workshop ‘The writer and his translators’.
During this year’s workshop, which focuses on literature for children and young people, participants worked with texts by Juan Kruz Igerabide. The texts were translated into English by Aritz Branton, and into Polish by Monika Czerny. Elizabete Manterola coordinates the workshop.
The workshop started in Donostia on 26th and 27th September at the Carlos Santamaría Centre. On 30th September, International Translators’ Day, the results were presented during a public event at Koldo Mitxelena Culture Centre. Participants of the workshop discussed their experiences and read extracts from the original text and its English and Polish translations.
The event now moves on to Poland. On 5 October Elizabete Manterola coordinates a meeting with the author and his translator into Polish as part of the ‘International Short Story Festival’ in Wroclaw. Author and translator will talk about translation and read selections in Basque and Polish.
