This year’s book festival, which closed on Sunday 24 April at Millennáris, featured a hugely successful and varied programme from the Hungarian Literary Translators’ Association MEGY .

For the first time two auditorium talks were presented. Ádám Nádasdy, drawing a crowd as always, gave a presentation on translating the new Hungarian edition of Dante’s Divine Comedy. Mónika Mesterházi hosted the second panel discussion with translators of Hungarian texts into other languages. Éva A. Dobos, Ágnes Járfás and Ottilie Mulzet discussing their translations of Szilárd Borbély’s Hungarian novel Nincstelenek into Norwegian, French and English, respectively. […]

Brockway Prize to Dutch – German translator Ard Posthuma

The Brockway Prize, a biennial prize for poetry translations from the Dutch, has been awarded to Ard Posthuma. The prize was established by the Dutch Foundation for Literature and is worth 5,000 euro. It will be presented on 12 June during the Poetry International Festival in Rotterdam.

Literary translator Ard Posthuma (b. 1942) attended universities in Lausanne, Munich and Basel before embarking on a career as editor and lecturer. Since 1989 he has translated Dutch, Frisian and Flemish poetry into German, with publications including anthologies of the work of Martinus Nijhoff, Cees Nooteboom, Gerrit Kouwenaar, Leonard Nolens and Tsjêbbe Hettinga. His translations ‘in the other direction’, of work by authors including Ingo Schulz and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (Faust), have also been highly praised. […]

Better basis of negotiation for Danish translators after new trade agreement

The Danish Authors’ Society , of which the Danish Translators Association is a part, has reached a collective agreement with the Danish Publishers’ association on the implementation of the transparency part of the EU’s DSM directive. This agreement means that publishers will have a responsibility to be transparent about all of the economic aspects of authors’ contracts … The negotiations and settlement of the terms of the agreement are the first collective trade agreement in the Danish book sector for almost thirty years …
