In 2008 the embassy of Spain in Slovenia launched the EsAsi award for the best translation into Slovene of literary works originally written in Spanish. This biennial award for professional translators, worth € 3000, aims to recognise the work of the translator and promote a knowledge and appreciation of Spanish literature among Slovene readers.
In 2014, the 4th round EsAsi Award was conferred on Vesna Velkovrh Bukilica for Bartleby & Co., her translation of Bartleby y compañía by Spanish author Enrique Vila Matas (published by Beletrina in 2006). […]

English PEN’s Writers in Translation programme is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a nationwide programme of events beginning on the evening of 18 March with a launch at Foyles bookshop in London. Hans Boland, a Dutch translator of Russian literature, has refused to accept Russia’s Pushkin Medal because of his objections to President Vladimir Putin as a ‘very great danger to freedom and peace on our planet’. Established in 1999, the Pushkin Medal is awarded by the Russian government to individuals for extraordinary achievements in arts and culture.
